our full time learners to create the sensor driven buggy

We are going to work with our full time learners to create the sensor driven buggy and like many of our class projects intend to make it to a competition with local sponsors to inspire the young for the future (examples below).

Here is the casing around our dalek project

Community Introduction with related Community activity photos:
We are working with about 250 engineering students in the department ranging from level 2 to level 5. I am an electronic Engineer and am working to inspire the learners in the electronics field. We have generated an idea to enthuse learners into electronics by making a sensor driven dalekfor the 12-14 year old community project for the summer and then use this to inspire our 16 year old learners by using the same board to make a sensor driven buggy in a combined manufacture and design unit. This will give them a real sense of what they can do with electronics. We plan to make a competition out of the daleks within the community summer school in order to get more young people into the electronic engineering field to help fill the uk skills gap.

We are making sensor driven daleks and buggies that will teach the learners about assembly, programming, sensors, motor drive and power requirements of such buggies/daleks.

We are making sensor driven daleks and buggies that will teach the learners about assembly, programming, sensors, motor drive and power requirements of such buggies/daleks. The buggies/daleks are driven by 2 motors mounted in a plastic base with 2 IR sensors in the front of the base to detect a barrier to change direction. The PCB also has a programmable chip in it to make the exterminate sound when activated by a touching a copper strip. The Daleks will also act as a desk tidy.
