About us

Starkstrom Augsburg e.V. is a German nonprofit society that designs and builds a fully electric racecar every year. With this car we then participate in international formula student events and even managed it to get into top 10 at Formula Student Germany in 2015.

Thanks to the commitment of our team members, the support of our university’s supervisors and the collaboration with numerous partners in automotive industry we keep pace with the times regarding know-how.

Our society offers the possibility for young engineers to address themselves to demanding tasks and take over responsibility. This, in conjunction with the company-like structure and the companionable relation, leads to distinct development of each student’s personality.


The Racecar

In the new season we are planning an improvement of many little details. Main goals are greater reliability and better maintainability. Additionally we are planning a vehicle weight reduction of 10%.

General

Power:  4x20kW (~110PS)

Torque: up to 300 Nm per wheel

Speed: max. 130 km/h

Drivetrain

Four permanent-magnet synchronous motors, water-cooled power electronics. Use of recuperation , traction 

control and torque vectoring.

Accumulator

Maximum voltage: 600V

Capacity: 6,7 kWh

Extensive safety monitoring of lithium polymer cells


Self-developed Circuit Boards

Nearly all electronic Parts of our racecar are made from custom designed PCBs. Size and weight are important factors in racecar design. Therefore, we use Altium Designer which enables us to directly generate 3D models as well as draftmen documents of our finished Components. These help a lot for justification of our decisions in Design Event.

We use a Mother-/Daughterboard system which enables us to easily swap defective parts with spare ones. Therefore we designed our own Processorboard which features all peripherals that are needed by our Daughterboards. It can be programmed by Mathlab Simulink a graphical programming environment. This standardized programming method drastically decreased software development time. 

These Daughterboards are used in the HV-accumulator as well as the cockpit control unit, the LV-accumulator and the main interface and electric safety unit.

Importance of supporters

Without companies' support formula student teams wouldn't exist. The development of those cars requires tremendous amounts of time, money and knowledge. With PCBWay as supporter in PCB manufacturing we would have the opportunity to produce more prototypes on the way to our finally used units. This will help our Designers to increase reliability and robustness of the developed components.
